Peter Matthews is the Managing Director of UKinsuranceNET.
- Pete is not only a most generous donor to many charities including The Red Cross, UNICEF, St Teresa's Hospice and others but he has also directly helped others less fortunate than himself.
- Pete once very unselfishly took a homeless person from off the streets and found him somewhere to live (and paid for it). He continues to support this person in his gradual recovery to a normal life. Pete has never publicised this before and it shows the type of person he really is.
- He has recently given nearly £5000 to local schools and charities in the Darlington area including £1000 to The Oscar Worton fund. Oscar has cerebral palsy and needed specialist treatment not available on the NHS. When Pete heard about this he stepped in and gave this most generous donation.
- The employment policy at UKinsuranceNET is set by Pete. It is such that he has given employment to many persons who would otherwise find it very difficult or impossible to obtain it. I know - I'm one of them!
- Salma Buwembo, an asylum seeker from Burundi, a small strife torn country in Central Africa came to Darlington shortly before her baby daughter Iman was born in December 2003. Salma and her husband Jamil had run a vegetable and fruit business in the capital Bujumbura but tragically, as a result of internal strife, Jamil was killed. Salma was imprisoned but managed to bribe her way out by parting with her wedding rings. So frightened was she of being rearrested while pregnant, she fled the country leaving her elder daughter, Amal, with her mother. Salma arrived in London in July 2003.
- November 2007 - Great News - Salma is able to progress with her aim to access education and training. She is enrolled for part-time courses starting in Jan to study IT, keyboard skills and counselling. The cost of fees has been met through a generous donation from from Darlington businessman Peter Matthews. She hopes that this will lead to a good job, however she will need continued support while she is studying.
- Pete left school with only one O-level in Home Economics. He went on to become a painter and decorator. After entering the insurance industry he has now built up his own very succesful firm employing over 40 people. Not a bad achievement!
The founders of UK insurance NET have over 40 years’ senior management experience in the "traditional" world of insurance. Their primary objective was to cut the cost, hassle and mystery out of buying financial services products.
